Not Simple, But it is Syndication

The agglomerated feeds mentioned as option (1) in our last post can be found at rss.fyneside.com. We’ve used a natty little plugin called SmartRSS, a title we rather like. And for once, it does everything it says it can. At the moment we have a grand total of 16 or so accessible posts, from 4 feeds, which we have imported into RSS Fyneside without incident. Once we have sorted the semi-automatic feed refresh we’ll move onto the next task: integration of this neat solution into all the blogs.
And no integration is not that simple, because the intention is that for each blog, whether the main Fyneside site, community blogs or section blogs, we have a slightly different subset of stories being fed to the front page bringing all that is important to the reader’s attention without repeating that blog’s own headlines … To do this within the constraints of a set of common themes, is going to be a challenge.
At another level, we’ll be using the feeds we collected with the radiofyneside.co.uk beta to create a News aggregation service with third party feeds from the likes of the BBC, Guardian, Radio Today, Channel 4 etc etc. And in this, if you have any site you use regularly let us know, we’d love to hear about it and include it. Let us know via the main Fyneside site.
