Google Rank: 48

Thursday, 28th August, 2008 | Google Rank | None

Yep: Google Dancing around the room a couple of times.
But, we did find over 100 html errors — things like img and br tags not being closed etc. and have now got that down to 32. Should help. It is all minor stuff though, and over the next weeks we’ll weed that out too …

Google Rank: 77

Huh? How did that happen? Hmm. Google Dance methinks. Well I hope so. Evidently, Google occasionally shakes things up, mostly because they improve their software, or include a new batch of web pages, or something. When this happens the listings hierarchy which has been so dependable for months gets a kick and there’s a massive [...]

All is Fyne: A New Theme for WPMU

Thursday, 21st August, 2008 | Development, News | 3

We’ve been working on the themes we use for this WPMU recently. As we have a brand that carries through all our sub-blogs, it seemed to us sensible to look at amalgamating all the separate themes into one which would then serve all the differing blogs. Throughout all of the themes only the colour changes, [...]

Google Rank: 42

Today marks the first use of Google’s webmaster tools in relation to this website, so it will be interesting to see whether we rise faster and/or farther in the next week or so.

Google Rank: 47

In the top 50. Like that. Petrol in my tank. Actually it varies, sometimes its 47, sometimes 44, and at others 43. So, a lot of variety. Hadn’t realised google results were quite so volatile. The main thing here of course is breaking into the top half hundred, but its an interesting effect.
Here’s a pic [...]

Theme Scream

Thursday, 14th August, 2008 | Bug Hunt, Community News, Development, Members, News | None

We’re revising the theme structure for the OTFA project because all our old themes ended up being incompatible with the new version of wpmu (2.6). The idea, at the moment, is to create a central theme which will then be coloured using a sub-style document. Whether or no this will be referenced or laid out [...]

Google Rank: 78

Sunday, 10th August, 2008 | Google Rank | None

Well, we’re still ranked according to the cached version of 30th July, so none of the vast front page improvements have been incorporated into our ranking yet. How frustrating is that?

Google Rank: 69 (and 3 as well!)

Wednesday, 6th August, 2008 | Google Rank | None

Still showing the same cached page as the last entry. I guess other sites got less argyll-ish in the meantime. Just did ‘Argyll Radio’ and we’re at no. 3. This is the sort of result we are looking for!

For Argyll makes the Most of its Feet

Tuesday, 5th August, 2008 | Development, News | None

Well, we actually mean the footer of the webpage, but as there are over a thousand pages on the forargyll.com website, that is a thousand opportunities to make more of an impact.
Wordpress has these great code snippets called widgets which give easy access to some smart pieces of coding. In the case of our main [...]

Categories Nailed, MU 2.6 and a Google Slide

Monday, 4th August, 2008 | Development, News | None

Mixed bag to report. The business directory is running well and has garnered a little interest in the WordPress community worldwide. We created some categories out of search strings using Search Unleashed, then coded them into drop downs for both the front end and the backend, and it seems to work very nicely indeed. A [...]
